THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

The Phantom of the Opera, currently showing at Her Majesty's Theatre is one of the most recognised musicals in the world. The multi-award winning production began life in 1986 starring Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman and has clocked up over 10,000 West End performances.

The story is concerned with the entwined fortunes of an opera company and a ghostly phantom that haunts the show – seemingly determined to rid the production of its leading soprano and to supplant her with talented chorus girl Christine Daae.

Christine could become a star in her own right if she had the right training. Now she is actually being tutored by the Phantom who has fallen in love with her, only to see her old childhood sweetheart, Raoul, arrive on the scene and capture her heart.

Thus the phantom eventually reveals himself to Christine as the disfigured musical genius who has hidden himself away in the sewers of Paris because he is ashamed of his physical appearance. He becomes jealous and enraged of Christine and Raoul and steals her away.

This award-winning musical extravaganza has been watched by millions of worldwide and Andrew Lloyd Webber's mesmerising score and the imaginative staging continue to amaze audiences at the Her Majesty's Theatre.
