About His Majesty's Theatre
Renamed, rebuilt and refurbished numerous times since 1705, His Majesty’s Theatre is still at the beating heart of London’s live performance scene. The venue continues to embody the sophisticated soul of British musical theatre.
Having started life as an opera house, it now hosts the West End’s second-longest running production: the timeless classic that is The Phantom of the Opera. The names of the theatre changes in accordance to the British Monarchy from His to Her Majesty's Theatre depending on who is reigning.
The most recent design of the theatre from included a flat for the actor and owner under the copper dome of the roof and in 1904 he instigated a drama school in this Dome Room, which eventually became the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
In 1986, The Phantom of the Opera opened at this historic venue where it still plays today!
