About The Cambridge Theatre:
Compared to other theatres surrounding it, The Cambridge Theatre is relatively young for a West End theatre. It was opened in 1930 it included beautiful interior design by architects Wimperis, Simpson & Guthrie, which has been carefully restored more recently.
The first productions to grace the Cambridge Theatre stage was André Charlot's Masquerade in 1930. Deborah Kerr made her stage debut at the Cambridge alongside Edith Evans in Heartbreak House in 1942, while Audrey Hepburn also trod the boards as part of the cast of Sauce Piquant in 1950.
For a short while the theatre became a cinema in 1967, before reopening to welcome Ian Mckellen in Hamlet in 1971. Dudley Moore and The John Curry Theatre of Skating at the Cambridge Theatre smashed box office records in 1976.
